History

Neviges and Tönisheide are districts of Velbert. Velbert is located in the city triangle of Wuppertal, Düsseldorf, Essen and borders directly on Essen and Wuppertal.

The SV Union Velbert was founded in 2011 through a merger of the clubs FC Tönisheide and TuS Neviges.

We are a club with a wide range of sports and opportunities to experience community.  From soccer to table tennis to badminton.  We are also active in the areas of hiking, parents & children and fitness for seniors.

So there is something for everyone, whether young, old, sporty or rather not so sporty.

Above all, a common club life is important to us, so our year is always peppered with many events for every Unioner.

#wirunioner have a lot to offer!

TuS member Günter Wermbter designed the logo for Union Velbert

Günter Wermbter is not a man of great appearance. He doesn't like to talk for long at a time; in his opinion, his voice is not enough for official speeches. But the mechanical engineer had a great moment that will permanently anchor him in the collective memory, at least in his hometown of Neviges. The 58-year-old has been a member of TuS Neviges for as long as anyone can remember - "When I was young, football was my whole passion," he remembers. He was there up to the A-youth, then he changed saddles and has been playing in the table tennis department ever since.

From the comparatively short life span that Günter Wermbter lived with his wife in Bochum, a passion for VfL has remained, as a table tennis player a short episode at a Langenberg club, today it is the fifth team of TuS Neviges - this is how the sporty one sees itself Summarize the Nevigeser's balance sheet.

No state without a flag, no club without a logo
When the impossible then became possible and the marriage of TuS and FC Tönisheide was being prepared, Günter Wermbter, like many other club mates, was naturally present at all information evenings. "I am a TuS'ler at heart," he confesses.

But no new state without a flag - that is no different with a sports club. It was pretty lively at the preparatory meetings. "Some wanted to save as much as possible of their old club in the symbolism of the new, others radically advocated a new beginning," he recalls. The green from FC Tönisheide - gone: the black TuS letters with a red and white border that climb down funny - gone.

In a quiet little room, Wermbter thought about it, played with the term union, and it was teammate Klaus Wittpoth who brought up Wermbter's idea of “Union Hardenberg”. The fact that the child is ultimately called “Union Velbert” - Günter Wermbter doesn't care.

Encouraged by Wittpoth and the commitment to the new colors blue-black, Wermbter felt challenged in his creativity again, because a logo was still missing. Wermbter was guided by the following thoughts: “A white Vau as a commitment to Velbert on a coat of arms, the outer contours of which are similar to those of VfL Bochum; SV before Union, so as not to suggest any closeness to a political party. ”And then: the angles. Wermbter: "If Neviges and Tönisheide no longer played a role in the club's name, then at least the Hardenberger beams should be preserved."

After a long session on the computer, the design was ready. Wermbter showed him to several confidants by email and was encouraged to present his proposal to the Merger Commission on February 28th. A great day for Günter Wermbter, he received a lot of praise and a board with his Union logo that had already been prepared made it more or less official. "I will be able to see my club crest at every game and every sporting competition," says Wermbter happily. "In this respect, I have helped write a piece of the club's history!"
